Starting Jiu-Jitsu can feel intimidating.
We understand.
LŌKAHI’s FOUNDATIONS of Jiu-Jitsu program was created with YOU in mind.
Sound Familiar?
These are some of the most common concerns we hear from first-time students.
-
Believe it or not, the right mindset is even more important than being a triathlete. Fitness will come through consistently showing up. FWIW… most of our coaches would also consider themselves ‘out of shape’.
-
Neither did 90% of our members! Foundations incorporates concepts from Jiu-jitsu, Wrestling, and Judo to provide you a solid introduction to engagements on the feet or on the ground.
-
We all have to go to work the next day so safety is our highest priority. Students learn proper movement, positional awareness, and how to train responsibly before increasing intensity.
-
Many of our students begin in their 30s, 40s, and beyond - including “Unk”, our beloved Coach Matt. Jiu-Jitsu focuses on control and intelligent movement, allowing athletes of all stages of seasoning to find success.
-
That’s exactly why Foundations exists. Every student begins alongside others who are learning the same core concepts in a structured environment. A’ole pilikia - no worries!
A Better Way to Start
For many beginners, their first Jiu-Jitsu experience feels overwhelming.
They walk into an unfamiliar environment, are introduced to movements they’ve never seen before, and are often expected to mimic techniques without fully understanding why they work. After learning a few disjointed moves, many are quickly thrown into live sparring before they’ve developed the awareness to train safely and confidently.
It can be confusing. Sometimes discouraging. In certain cases, unnecessarily dangerous.
We believe there’s a better way.
LŌKAHI’s Foundations program is a 24-class curriculum designed to help new students build confidence, move safely, and develop a clear understanding of the core principles of Jiu-Jitsu principles.
Students train in both Gi and No-gi environments while learning:
Key concepts like balance, leverage, and timing
Positional control and escapes
Foundational submissions and defense
Takedown awareness
Safe movement patterns
Training etiquette and mat awareness
